About Us

Land Acknowledgment
The Russell family acknowledges that Russell Orchards is situated on the unceded ancestral homelands of the Pawtucket People who for centuries were the original inhabitants and caretakers of this land. We pay respect to them and their Elders, both past and present, and honor the land itself. The traditional Pawtucket name for this place is Agawam, which we now call Ipswich. We respectfully acknowledge all Indigenous People and the devastating effects of dispossession and displacement through colonization by our forebears. We see it as a moral and ethical duty to assess how we use the land that we occupy, and to explore how we may engage with Indigenous and Native-led organizations in the community. We encourage you to learn more about the Indigenous homelands on which you live and work. For more information, please visit https://www.mcnaa.org.
Action Plan:
  • We will make a pledge for annual donations to a Massachusetts or New England based Native-led organization to assist with their community outreach programs.
  • We will create and fund a scholarship in the amount of $2500 to be awarded every year to a Native American student who is a resident of New England and is attending college to study agriculture.
  • We will dedicate space in our retail store for the display and sale of arts, crafts, books, or other items made by Native and Indigenous people, with 90% of the proceeds being directed back to the artist.
  • We will be open to receiving inquiries and requests by Native people and organizations looking to forage in the woods and fields for native and non-native species and plants.
  • We will be open to feedback from Native-led organizations to discuss ways in which we can further engage to promote awareness and understanding of Native culture.
  • We pledge to continue to evaluate our progress on this Action Plan, the intentions motivating our commitment, and to modify the Plan as needed to maintain its relevance and impact.
